When a puppy leaves our home for his or her new life, it is quite likely the most stressful event it has ever encountered in it's young life. It will be surrounded by new sights, smells and people, and it will be away from his family probably for the first time ever. A small pup, no matter how well socialized, will be anxious and worried during this change. We try our very best to make it as easy as possible a transition to his new life. ![]() Usually, our puppies travel to their new homes via car. This is an advantage because they can be right there with you, and you can talk softly and reassure them during the trip. It is a VERY good idea to bring a blanket, or towel with you in case puppy gets carsick. If you are picking up puppy alone, a crate is also a good idea in case he decides to wander throughout the car. We have sold many puppies to people who live all throughout North America, far enough away that driving is not practical. Although many breeders ship puppies as cargo, we would prefer not to, and may only do so after serious consideration. Could you imagine how terrifying this must be for a young puppy away from home for the first time? We would very much like to meet you in person and have you see where your puppy has been raised, and most times, new owners themselves will fly to pick up their puppies from us. (This is a great time to cash in your Air Miles!!) Many Airlines will allow you to take your puppy as a 'carry on' item which is the best possible way to transport him on a plane. This way, you are right there with him, just as in the car, to reassure him, and monitor him for stressful reactions such as Hypoglycemia a potentially deadly drop in blood sugar levels. No matter how much we try to make it easier for the puppy, it is still a very traumatic time, and it is very important to be extremely attentive during this transition to ensure puppy gets enough food, water and rest.
